Jesus, Republicans, And The Death Penalty

the death penalty johnnyyou.com

Lately, I have been stuck on a story in the Bible. Though I have known the story since I was a kid, something about it has recently made me feel unsettled. It’s the story of the woman who was caught in adultery. According to the law that was given directly by God, she deserved the death penalty (Leviticus 20:10). However, we see Jesus boldly standing against the judges in defense of the woman and fighting for her life. Was Jesus contradicting the law that He himself wrote? Is Jesus pro the death penalty? Are Christians supporting the death penalty following the footsteps of the pharisees who wanted her dead?

6 Lessons Christians Can Learn From Justin Bieber

111715-Music-Justin-Bieber-Pens-Open-Letter-for-Friend-Killed-in-Paris-Attacks

It was Justin Bieber’s 18th birthday when I was visiting a friend in Los Angeles. That friend happened to be someone that was working very closely with Bieber. I dropped my friend off to a hotel where Bieber was having his birthday party and I was told that the place was unannounced and not to tell anyone. I sat with another friend at the hotel’s bar and we chatted and prayed for Bieber for couple of hours until our friend came down and we drove him back. I wondered, “Is it possible for someone to be willing to give up so much money, fame, and power for the sake of following Jesus? Would I be willing if I am in Bieber’s shoes?” I kept thinking about the story of the rich young man that met Jesus (Matthew 19). The recent events with Bieber have proven that it is possible and that there are lessons every Christian can learn from him.

5 Ways To Do Something About The Paris Terror

PARIS VICTIMS

PARIS, FRANCE - NOVEMBER 16: People observe a minute-silence at the Place de la Republique in memory of the victims of the Paris terror attacks last Friday, on November 16, 2015 in Paris, France. Countries across Europe will join France, currently observing three days of national mourning, in a one minute-silence today in an expression of solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attacks, which left at least 129 people dead and hundreds more injured. The world watched in horror at the news of the series of terrorists attacks that killed more than 130 people in Paris. Like so many, I felt anger and confusion. Earlier this year, I had a chance to raise funds for the families of the 21 Christians Egyptians who were killed by ISIS. I was able to go to Egypt and meet the victims and deliver the funds. However, with the recent Paris Attacks, I wasn’t sure how I can actually make a difference. Compared to those in Egypt, money may not be a desperate need for those who lost their loved ones in Paris. While it is impossible to rewind the past, here are 5 practical ways you can take to help with the current situation and help us to potentially prevent future ones:

How I Met The Families Of The Beheaded Christians & What I learned

Family members of Egyptian Christians martyred by ISIS

I just came back from Egypt. I had the chance to personally meet with the families of the 21 men that were beheaded by ISIS for their Christian faith. We met at a local church instead of their homes for safety reasons. It is difficult to put in words how glorious and eye-opening the experience was and I think it will take me weeks if not months to capture it all but here is how it happened and what I learned from it.

A photo of a man sitting on a church pew in an empty cathedral

After my latest blog post where I discussed my experience with a ministry, I received numerous messages from individuals who expressed how they have been hurt in the past by Christians or/and a ministry and how my story had brought it all back up. My Experience with IHOPKC

Johnny Youssef and his experience with IHOP-KC

My name is Johnny Youssef and I am 29-years old. I moved to Kansas City to be a part of the International House of Prayer back in January 2009 when I attended a six-month internship called “onething”. I served at IHOPKC in some capacity for over 6 years. One of my roles was being the District Pastor for the Young Adults at the church. I wanted to share my story and experiences for several reasons; The main reason I decided to write this is because I have been asked numerous times from friends and relatives on my experience, especially after moving away, and I wanted to shed light on it. I pray that my writing will bring clarity and encouragement to you.
